Accountant First is a registered tax agent practice. Under the Tax Agent Services (Code of Professional Conduct) Determination 2024, we are required to give our current and prospective clients the following information.
Checking our registration
The Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) keeps a public register of registered tax and BAS agents. You can use it to check our registration: Search the TPB register (our registration number is 25906379).
How to make a complaint
If you are unhappy with our services, please contact us first so we can try to resolve the issue. You can also lodge a complaint with the TPB about a registered tax practitioner through the complaints page on the TPB website.
Our obligations to you
As registered tax practitioners, we must comply with the Code of Professional Conduct in the Tax Agent Services Act 2009. This includes:
- Acting honestly and with integrity
- Complying with taxation laws in our own affairs
- Acting lawfully in your best interests
- Keeping your information confidential, unless you agree or the law requires otherwise
- Providing services competently and taking reasonable care to apply taxation laws correctly to your circumstances
- Managing conflicts of interest
- Advising you of your rights and obligations under the taxation laws
Your obligations
- Give us complete and accurate information, and tell us about any changes
- Keep proper records, generally for five years
- Lodge and pay on time, and respond to our requests within agreed timeframes
- Remember that you remain responsible for the accuracy of the information in your returns
Using a registered tax agent may give you safe harbour from certain ATO penalties, provided you have given us all the relevant information.
